Betsy Sheppard of Gilbert & Sheppard Group Named HBA’s 2013 Associate of the Year

Congratulations Betsy!

On Saturday, November 2, at the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association’s annual OBIE Awards gala held in Atlanta, our own Betsy Sheppard was awarded the prestigious Associate of the Year Award for 2013. She was recognized for her tireless efforts on behalf of the association, its members and the home building industry, dating back to when she joined GAHBA more than 30 years ago.

“Betsy is an active and visionary advocate for the HBA,” noted David Ellis, Executive Vide President of GAHBA. “It is safe to say that at some point in time, Betsy has been active on every HBA Council. She is credited with branding the Green Building Council, the Remodelers Council, and the 50+ Housing Council. Most recently, her team created the brand for the HBA’s newest Council, Professional Women in Building (PWB).”

Sheppard served on the HBA Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Atlanta 50+ Housing Council for which she was awarded Council Chairperson of the Year in 2010. A charter member of Professional Women in Building, Sheppard currently serves as the Council’s Vice President. She is also active in the National PWB Council and was honored as the 2013 Spike Rookie of the Year.

At the State level, Sheppard is active in the HBA of Georgia where she is a founding and charter member of the “A Livable Lifestyle” (ALL) program and has worked tirelessly to brand and launch this exciting new program.

Finally, at the national level, she is a member of the NAHB’s 50+ Housing Council’s Board of Trustees, and serves several committees.

“I am truly blessed to be part of the housing industry, and try to give back whenever I can,” notes Sheppard.

This giving attitude is obvious in other parts of her life as well. Passionate about community service and helping others, Sheppard serves on the Board of Thanks Mom & Dad Fund, and is also a member of her local Optimist Club in Ellijay (GA) and a volunteer for Kids Ferst. In addition, she holds two committee seats on the Ellijay Downtown Development Authority, and was recently elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce.

“All of us at Gilbert & Sheppard Group are so proud of Betsy. She deserves this major recognition for her dedication to the HBA, and her commitment to always give 100%,” says Kerrie Gilbert. “We fully support her efforts and the efforts and goals of the HBA.”
